While not at work, Mr. McGreal is an avid outdoorsman. He has climbed all the recognized 4000-foot peaks in the northeast. This includes the White Mountains (NH), Green Mountains (VT), Longfellow Mountains (ME), Adirondack Mountains (NY) and the Catskill Mountains (NY). Additionally, he has climbed all of the 100 Highest Peaks in New England (the 67 4000-footers along with the next 33 highest "trailless" peaks). Peak list achievements are recognized during the "normal" season, which most hikers aspire, as well as during strictly the winter months (presenting unique challenges).
- White Mountain 4,000 Footers: Cannon was first in 6/2001 and Carrigain was last in 10/2008...a little over 7 years to complete.
- New England 4,000 footers: Cannon was first in 6/2001 and North Brother was last in 8/2009...a little over 8 years to complete.
- New England Hundred Highest: Cannon was first in 6/2001 and Pico was last in 9/2010...a little over 9 years to complete.
- Adirondack 46: Porter was first in 4/2010 and Colden was last in 10/2011...about a year and a half to complete.
- Northeast 115 (111): Cannon was first in 6/2001 and Colden was last in 10/2011...a little over 10 years to complete.
- White Mountain 4,000 Footers: Completed these peaks again during the winters of 2012 and 2013.
For perspective, this accomplishment is achieved by approximately 1 in 51,000 (based on 2010 New York and New England populations).
Other Outdoor Activities
In addition to hiking, Mr. McGreal also avidly enjoys kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, bicycling, downhill skiing, backpacking/camping and swimming.
